Skyline R-II Board Meeting

The Skyline R-II Board meeting met in regular session on Wednesday August 17, 2016 with 6 members present.   The consent agenda items consisting of Board minutes, bills and financial statement were presented and approved. 

In old business:  The Board met at 6:45 for the annual tax rate hearing.  Assessment numbers were presented along with the Pro Forma form from the State Auditor’s Office.  The assessed valuation for Skyline School District is $9,406,953.  The prior year tax rate ceiling was $2.9411, with the prior year tax levy at $2.9502 and the current year rate computed is $2.9587.  Therefore the Board voted to set the tax rate for the 2016-2017 school year as $2.9587 which is an increase in the tax rate from the prior year of $0.0085.  The tax levy is set to generate $278,323 for the Skyline School District which will cover approximately 23% of the schools operating budget.     

In new business:  The Board voted to approve transporting students that live less than one mile from the District.  Bus Routes were presented and approved by the Board for the 2016-17 school year.  The Board was presented with 3 options for the Local Special Education Compliance Plan.  They approved Option A which is to adopt the Model Compliance Plan made available by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.   

In the Superintendent’s Report:  The Board discussed the Tax Levy Proposal that was turned down in the August 2nd election.  No decisions have been made yet about whether this issue will be put back on the Ballot in the future.  Enrollment for the first day of school was 85 students K-8 and 8 preschool students.  The next regular scheduled Board meeting is September 21, 2016.
